“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him”
As the FCA Director, I can’t say enough about the coaches', teacher sponsors', students', athletes', and Community's love for our Lord and Savior, it shines through in all that they do!
The school year is in full swing around the campuses of Okaloosa/Walton County. Fall Sports are going strong, with football, cheerleading, volleyball, cross-country, swim, and golf, while huddles have started to gather weekly. Let’s take a look.
Walton High School is off to a great start with several new additions to their coaching staff. We have coach Bobby Moore (YES, THE BOBBY MOORE) and coach Karl Schroder modeling great FCA values along with the entire Walton County coaching staff, and huddle sponsor, coach Dixon. All I can say is what a great opportunity for our students-athletes to be influenced by such great men and women of great Integrity. These students and leaders meet at their flag pole before school to pray for their day and their school. Their “ALL IN” way of life continues to mold a great influence in our future. Walton High's huddle meetings are on Thursday mornings at 7:00 a.m.
Freeport High School plans on building the size of their FCA huddle by starting a lunch time huddle meeting. This new meeting time will allow more Freeport students to attend! Way to Go Freeport!
South Walton High School has kicked off the school year with a BIG Success! They joined the FCA Leadership Retreat and got pumped up on how to build their influence through the leadership of student-athletes. This huddle has networked with Youth pastors from area churches to help make a difference and to build a strong connection with other students. South Walton High's huddle meets on Friday mornings at 7:00 a.m.
Crestview High School kicked off this year's huddle meetings Thursday at 6:45 a.m. Coach Gillis, along with huddle sponsor and huddle volunteer leader Dale Rice, had over 40 students at their first meeting. The Leadership of these young men and young women will definitely make a difference on their school campus this year.
Choctaw High School has great plans for their first huddle meeting on Thursday at 6:30 a.m. These student leaders have been planning over the summer and attended the Leadership Retreat to be “ALL IN” for 2014/2015. They have been intentional about making their huddle inviting and encouraging new members to join! Way to go Choctaw!
Niceville High School attended the FCA Retreat with really great student leaders. This school was super energized to get back on their campus and start their first huddle meeting. We look forward to helping in all their needs and sharing their excitement for their campus. Their meetings are TBA.
Fort Walton Beach High School had their entire football team go to FCA camp! This school is so pumped to share the message of our Lord Jesus Christ! Their first huddle meeting was filled with athletes, student leaders and students that were interested in seeing what FCA was all about. FWBHS is our first high school to register for their “ALL IN” Fields of Faith for October 8, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Riggs Stadium. THIS IS GOING TO BE TRULY AMAZING! FWBHS will be reaching out to Bruner and to Liza Jackson (their feeder schools) so that they may also be “ALL IN”.
Fields of Faith:
We challenge all our area high schools to plan their Fields of Faith and to set the date sometime in October as well as to invite their feeder Middle Schools. Give me a call and I’ll be glad to help create the best fields of faith for your campus.
Okaloosa/Walton FCA had their first annual Leadership Retreat on September 6th. We had several breakout sessions for students and huddle sponsors. FCA would like to take this time to give several shout-outs to the youth leaders in our area that came and shared their love for FCA huddles and expressed the willingness to be actively involved in the school huddles. Also, a shout-out to Destiny Worship Center for the worship time, the wonderful facility, and above all, the great support from their youth pastor and campus leader. We certified 6 schools that day!
FCA To-Do List:
This is a busy time a year for Okaloosa/Walton FCA, we are connecting athletes and student huddles together to create the best FCA huddle for their campus. With that, we are meeting with each school one on one to certify them and offer them the resources they may need for their specific school.
We have several exciting things set for the next several months:
- See you at the Pole on the 24th of September.
- Individual Schools October’s Fields of Faith (National day is set for 8th of October)
- Okaloosa/Walton’s first ever “2014 FCA ALL IN” awards for each end of the season sports.
- Football Challenger Banquet December 8, 2014 at Niceville Community Center.
Lifeway Christian Store of Destin became “ALL IN” this past month with a campaign for their local FCA. The Community had the opportunity to purchase and donate books for FCA huddles. Way to go, Lifeway! Thank you for your love for Okaloosa/Walton FCA's students, teacher, and coaches.
Dr. Stubbs and her wonderful partner and husband, Zack, have designated September to be “ALL IN” Okaloosa/Walton FCA month. During this campaign, the office will be holding a raffle and all donations will go toward FCA. We dropped off several brochures to inform all the givers about FCA. Way to go Zack and Dr. Stubbs for being “ALL IN”!!
Taylor Haugen Foundation has blessed Okaloosa/Walton FCA with their partnership to support the community efforts of all the area high schools. The area schools will be submitting their community project along with their application for their mini grant to help off set the price of the project. Way to go T.H.F!
I would like to take this time to lift up all the churches that have filled out their FCA Ministry Leadership Application. What a great commitment it is to be “ALL IN” with students and athletes in our schools. These youth pastors have gone over and above to help support and see the calling of the school’s mission. FCA kicked off over the summer with the campaign to the churches explaining this mission:
“A Christian without a Church is like an Athlete without a Team.”
So I would like to thank Dominick Farone, Immanuel Church, Jeff Stovall, Mary Esther UMC, Matt Hull, Trinty UMC, Billy Russell, Niceville UMC, Jordan Tardo, Destiny Church, Chris Yancy, Cinco Baptist Church, James Jetton, Niceville Recreation Pastor, Will and Becky Diefenbach from Point Washington/the “Bridge”, Joe Trotman Point Washington, Becca Daniels, Destin Church, Nick Anderson, 1st Baptist Church of Walton Co. Josh Folk, St. Mark’s UMC of Crestview.
In closing, I would like to say that I’m honored and blessed to be serving each and every one of these areas of FCA. Thank you for the opportunity. My prayers are to continue to serve, share, and honor my love for Jesus Christ.
Please contact me if there is an area that you would like to serve in Okaloosa/Walton FCA. We always need you! If you would like to donate to Okaloosa/Walton FCA please visit our website owfca.org. or please know I’m only a phone call away @ 850-217-0391.
